How many times have you heard that the skin is the largest organ in our body? As someone interested in skincare and who ready countless beauty blogs, that is probably the most overused sentence in the skincare community. And after reading all those blogs and watching all those videos, the one thing I noticed is… where the foot fetish people at!?

Ok, let’s be honest. Our feet have the responsibility, nay, the burden of carrying our (often very heavy) asses wherever we go. They touch the bare earth for us and dirty themselves. It is only natural that we show them some kind of love. I was late to this party as well. As a child and a young adult, I rarely took care of the skin on my face, let alone the skin on my feet. As a result, they hardened, cracked, and developed scabs. Gross. I know. But it made me realize how important skincare is for every part of our body. So, with the help of my sage-like mother, I developed a foot care routine. And no, it does not include going to the salon and spending thousands of rupees on fancy pedicures. It’s easy, attainable and doable by everyone even in the thick of this lockdown. So here are the steps I follow.

Foot Baths

Ok so when you get pedicures, they dunk your feet in warm water, right? That is a foot bath. Foot baths help not only the skin on your feet but also your muscles and joints to relax and de-stress. One common practice, especially if you’re experiencing foot pain is to add a few crystals on alum in your warm water. My mother used to do this for me after I used to finish my dance lessons and experience severe foot pain.

You don’t need to do this every day though. Once or twice a week is just enough to activate your circulatory system and get the blood flowing to your feet.

Scrubs and scrubbing

I have this problem. I have clumps of dead skin cells on my feet that don’t seem to go away. I can say for sure they started when I was a child and used to practice Taekwondo barefoot in the mud. But, ever since I have grown enough to take care of my own skin, I have tried to get rid of it. One of the most effective things for it, in my experience, is scrubbing. Use a scrubber or a brush to scrub the soles of your feet to get rid of any dead skin cells or hard patches that may appear.

Again, don’t do this every day. Exfoliating your skin everyday can cause microdamage to your skin cells. Once or twice a week, right after you come out of the shower is the best time.

Moisturize

Like every part of your body, your feet need moisture too. Now here is the pro-tip that I wish I had gotten ages ago. DO NOT USE VASELINE. Vaseline is a petroleum-based gel. IT DOES NOT MOISTURIZE. It forms a barrier to prevent moisture from escaping, yes. But it does not in itself moisturize. Use a heavy moisturizer or foot cream for this purpose. The one I use is Epimax Plus.

The product is probably not available in India so a good alternative would be Venusia Max available here:

Socks

Ok so socks are an important part of my foot care routine. I don’t use them for long periods of time. I wear them after I have moisturized and am going to bed. They keep the moisturizer from rubbing off and keep its effects contained. So, make socks an important accessory for your foot care routines.

Now that you know my secrets, I would ask you (for the first time) to sign up to my blog. It’ll really help! If you like my content then please share it with your friends and family so that it can reach more people. Thank you so much! Bye!
