Who does not want good skin? We all want our face and body to glow like a thousand ring lights together, don’t we? And while taking good care of our skin includes using moisturizers, toners, and sunscreens, it is that sad fact that not everyone can afford it. So, to make our skin look healthy with an inner glow, the first thing we can do is… DRINK A HEALTHY AMOUNT OF WATER. And, the second thing we can do is eat a proper meal. Keeping that in mind, here are a few things one must eat that helps keeps your skin healthy. Bonus points to me because these are things found in an everyday Indian’s diet.

Disclaimer, none of these things are magic beans that promise to make your skin healthy. If you don’t take good care of yourself in general with proper exercise and hygiene, odds are, these will not work.

Fatty Fish

Sorry to all my vegetarians out there, but, the truth is fatty fish such as salmon (raavas) and surmai have high omega-3 acids. These acids keep the skin moisturized and thick (thicc) and prevent the drying out of the skin. They also reduce the inflammation caused by acne. Conversely, if you hate eating fish as a food, fish oil supplements are a noble option. These also contain Vitamin E which repairs and hydrates the skin.

Walnuts

Apparently, walnuts don’t just make you smart, they make you beautiful as well. Containing Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and other important nutrients, walnuts help in soothing inflammation and repairing and protecting the skin. However, be wary. Do not eat too much of walnuts because they also contain Omega-6 fatty acids which can CAUSE inflammation in the body and skin.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes, or, shakarkand as they are called in Hindi, are rich in Beta Carotene, a provitamin A, which is converted into Vitamin A in your body. These Beta Carotenes act as a natural sunblock and keep your skin healthy. What else? A high amount of these beta carotenes in your diet can give you a warm orange hue which and a healthy glow. Other food sources rich in these Beta Carotenes are oranges and carrots.

Tomatoes

Sev Tamatar ki Sabji never sounded so good! With the usual high content of vitamin C which gives your skin a healthy glow, tomatoes also contain all the Carotenoids necessary to protect your skin from sun damage. Pro-tip, pair tomatoes with a source of high fats such as paneer or cheese as fats help in the absorption of these carotenoids.

Dark chocolate

And finally, dessert. Linked with increasing the thickness and hydration of your skin, cocoa is a pretty phenomenal thing to eat. Not only is it tasty, but also effective. But not just any dark chocolate. Grab a bar that is high in anti-oxidants. These will have fast and (furious) long term results on your skin. Specifically, choose dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa to boost your results.

Those were the five things that can be found in an Indian diet to boost your skincare routine. Share if you enjoyed and found this informative! Thank you!
